While I love traveling and speaking about different attractions and restaurants I would be remiss if I did not mention those restaurants close to home that make you feel like you are somewhere else. A restaurant that has recently opened and has been gaining popularity is MALIS in Raynham, MA. I heard about it from a teacher friend who explained it as “amazing” and that they “would show you how to eat it”. I was intrigued and had to try it, so we went two days later.
The restaurant itself is small but welcoming. It is very relaxing and has a more modern feel. Friday and Saturday nights they have live entertainment and it gets quite busy, so expect a wait. The restaurant itself has a different feel,
something I could not explain at first. We were greeted by the host who was also the waiter. The menu consisted of Asian Comfort Food with such things as Street Corn, Pho Noodles, Sandwiches, and various other items. We were given house tea which is complementary and ordered our drinks. The Modern Mai Tai is out of this world! A blend of juices and alcohol with crushed pineapples and topped with pineapple cold foam is something you will need to experience for yourself. The first visit we got wings, street corn, chicken and rice, and a Beef BBQ sandwich. (Note I will rate all the items we have tried at the bottom of this post) When the food arrived, especially the chicken and rice, it came out with a plate and two bowls. One bowl contained a broth and the other had spices/sauce in it. The waiter knew it was our first
time and explained the different ways to eat the meal (i.e. adding everything to the bowl or mixing it little by little on the plate). I opted to add the broth to my rice and mix the sauce with the rice as well. The food was so good there was nothing left, which is not like me. For dessert they have donut sticks that come with a creamy coconut glaze. It is not like anything I have ever had around here, ever.
We have since been back every weekend and have tried different appetizers, meals, and drinks each time. Nothing has disappointed thus far.
Something from one of our recent visits is that the flavoring for the mojitos and margaritas is just that, flavoring. Therefore, these flavorings can be added to any sprite or soda for kids. I wanted to share because after trying them my daughter has really come to love the pink guava one.
We have also had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Meas, and he was so kind and personable. (Ask him about the green tea shot) He talked to us about their other restaurant and how his sister actually owns the place next door, 4YEW Juice and Smoothie Bar. We have not been next door yet, maybe one day soon though.
Again, while I love sharing vacation activities and restaurants I wanted to also share places we love close to home, a staycation as many call it. If you are in the area of Route 44 in Raynham, next to Honda, I highly recommend making the stop at MALIS as I know you will not be disappointed.
