Seven Mile Beach is a beautiful beach on the Cayman Islands. The beach itself spans 6.3 miles (I know I would have thought it was 7 miles) and is one of the most developed areas on Grand Cayman. Seven mile beach is also one of the most popular beaches and at low tide you can walk the entire 6.3 miles. Governor’s Beach and Seven Mile Public Beach are two beaches within the 6 mile stretch that you can visit.
Governors Beach is right next to, you guessed it, the Governor’s House. Here there are no chairs or bathrooms but it is a great quiet spot to relax and snorkel. The water is crystal blue and there is plenty of marine life to see here just a few feet offshore.
Seven Mile Public Beach is more family friendly. It has cabanas with picnic tables under them. It has bathrooms, grills, volleyball nets, and a large playground. This beach is a little further up from governor’s beach but it is definitely worth it, especially with little ones.
Along the stretch of seven mile beach you can find resorts from affordable to luxurious, it all depends on what you are looking for in your stay. Two resorts I will mention are Hampton by Hilton (where we stayed) and Marriott (which is next door).
Hampton by Hilton offered free breakfast, a smaller and oftentimes quieter hotel because it was not directly on the beach. When you exit the back of the hotel there is the green space and pool area. Past the pool there is a path to the beach which is maybe a 1 minute walk. There are about 6-7 chairs for guests to sit at the water's edge. The hotel's breakfast, which again is free, was amazing! It had fruit, pastries, breads, cereal, eggs, potatoes, peppers, sausage, bacon, and if you wanted a custom omelet or egg they would make it for you and bring it to your table. The staff are super friendly and help with anything and everything. At the pool each day they have a happy hour where they have drinks infused with local tea and they serve different “snacks” for free each day. Some snack examples were: popcorn, french fries, fruit skewers, pina coladas, and many others. The restaurant at Hampton is Ms. Pipers Kitchen + Garden. The food has island hints and is so flavorful. The menu offers lunch and dinner as well as garden specials which you can enjoy at the outdoor seating area or by the pool. For dinner, the night we went they had special Brazilian options which included different empanadas as well as a meat plate. The plate consisted of eggs, potatoes, sausage, steak, and chicken. The portion was so much that we could split it between three adults and one child and we could not finish it. I would say for the price this hotel will not disappoint.
I will only briefly touch upon the Marriott as we only went for the day. The hotel was a lot busier than next door but Marriott is right on the water. When you walk out the back of the hotel you walk along a nice green/water space which is quiet and serene. Once you are in the back there is a pool, small food area, and steps down to the beach. This was convenient and beautiful. To be able to watch your child swim in the pool while enjoying drinks and ocean views was not something that you could easily top. Since the hurricane last Fall (2022) there is not much beach left. As with any island, erosion is always a concern. We had dinner that night at Anchor Bar and Lounge. The food was good but the hotel was very loud. There was a DJ in the lobby and people everywhere. With a little one it was not the best experience. With that being said it would not deter me from ever returning.
These were just two resorts we visited on the stretch of Seven Mile Beach. Every resort offers different amenities and price ranges so there is definitely something for everyone.
Be sure to check out my blog next week on different restaurants on Grand Cayman.
